Need to Know

Post COVID-19 Travel Guidelines

Before traveling to Jamaica, you must obtain a Travel Authorization. Take the time to learn about the risk management initiatives and applicable quarantine orders and how they will affect your visit to Jamaica. Also, read and double-check the entry requirements, considering that they may be updated.

Getting Around

Negril is a relatively secure place to walk around. The most dangerous situations are the chaotic traffic and narrow roads. Just be careful when walking along the side of the road, particularly on the west end’s winding streets. There are also small shops where you can borrow a scooter or pedal bicycle.

Route taxis often travel the length of Seven Mile Beach and West End Rd. You can signal them from any spot. At study time during the day, the fare for any two points was J$130.

Taxis are the easiest way to get around Jamaica, whether you’re flying in or out of one of the airports or going to the tourist areas. If you want to use taxis, remember a red license plate is shown on tourist taxis- If a vehicle does not have red plates or a road switch displayed on the side, do not get in it. Since few drivers use meters, agree on the fare before getting in the taxi.

Renting a vehicle is still an alternative, but driving on the wrong side of the road can be frustrating- there are confusing road signs, rude drivers, and many potholes.

Negril is secure throughout the day, but we advise taking extra care if visiting in the evening. If you drive late at night, make sure to catch a cab to and from your destination and don’t wander through the streets.

When it comes to needy locals wanting to beg or sell you anything, Negril’s warnings are astonishingly clear, even though you’ve already ordered them to leave a few times.

With its tropical climate, Jamaica draws the average tropical bug population. Along with your sunscreen, make sure you have a decent supply of bug spray on hand and use it regularly. Also, as in many developed countries, drink only bottled water.

Given there are so many Negril all-inclusive resorts in this destination, there is never a lack of things to do to participate in some Jamaican fun. So, make an all-inclusive Negril resort your next stop and flee to an authentic paradise for your next holiday. Nothing compares to a Jamaican sunset over the Negril Cliffs to refresh your soul and spirit.
