COVID-19 Travel Guidelines

Travelers will no longer be required to have a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival as of May 1, 2021. Instead, airports and other points of entry will administer a simple screening to a random sample of travelers and anybody who exhibits symptoms upon arrival. Travelers should also be aware that a mandatory curfew is in effect from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. Before leaving, keep an eye on the government’s website for any updates to the guidelines.

Getting Around (Transportation)

There are numerous options for getting around Puerto Plata, all of which are entirely safe. Taxis are still readily accessible outside your hotel’s main entrance or a short walk away in front of Playa Dorada’s plaza. They’re typically inexpensive, but the ones at your hotel might be a little more. To avoid any misunderstandings, it is an excellent idea to negotiate a price before entering. It’s best to haggle with them, as it is with everything in Puerto Plata. The moto-taxi is an even more cost-effective mode of transportation. This is a motorcycle that can usually accommodate a driver and two passengers.

Before going anywhere, it’s also a good idea to haggle over the price. It usually costs a little more for two people than for one, but it is less expensive and often faster than getting a taxi.

There are also public buses, which are helpful if you want to travel a long distance for less money.

Since Puerto Plata is a popular tourist destination, crime is generally low. Any general guidelines apply, such as never leaving valuables unattended in unlocked vehicles or walking alone at night. Tourists should also maintain a low profile in more remote areas being targeted to robbery or criminal activity. The Dominican Republic, on the other hand, is a generally safe place to visit.

Puerto Plata is arguably the most diverse and gorgeous vacation destination. With a mix of pristine and quiet beaches and vigorous nightlife, it makes the perfect combination for traveling families and young crowds looking for some fun and adventure. The breathtaking sceneries are endless, yet words aren’t enough to capture the beauty of Puerto Plata. So grab your passport and let this piece of paradise on Earth fulfill all of your fantasies.
